Preparing your excursions

When to go

Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) are most pleasant. In summer, favour dawn, evening and the mountains; in winter, desert nights are cold and the Atlas may be snowy.

How to book

Compare time slots on the platforms, check the cancellation policy and meeting point. Book ahead in high season, especially balloon flights and Merzouga.

What to bring

Closed shoes, a warm layer for the desert, hat, sunscreen, water, small change for tips and a light scarf. Respect local customs: dress modestly in villages.

Group or private

A small group is economical and sociable. Private costs more but lets you adapt timings and stops, which we recommend for Merzouga and family travel.

GetYourGuide Marrakech: how it works

On GetYourGuide Marrakech, pick the activity, date and number of travellers, read the verified reviews, then pay online. Many offers allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before: always check each listing’s policy.

Get Your Guide Marrakech: what to check

Compare time slots, the guide’s language, the meeting point and what is included (meals, transport, entrance fees) before you confirm.

Frequently asked questions about Marrakech excursions

What are the best excursions from Marrakech?

Travellers favour the Agafay Desert at sunset, the Ourika Valley, Ouzoud Waterfalls, Essaouira, Aït Ben Haddou and hot air ballooning. Our selection ranks them by theme so you can choose by interest and available time.

Agafay or Merzouga: which should I choose?

Agafay is a stone desert about an hour from Marrakech, perfect for an evening. Merzouga offers the big sand dunes of Erg Chebbi but needs at least two to three days because of the distance. Short on time: Agafay. Want the Sahara: Merzouga.

What is the best time of year for excursions?

March to May and October to November have the mildest temperatures. In summer, heat means early-morning or evening schedules. In winter, dress warmly for desert nights.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, especially in high season and for balloon flights or multi-day tours. Many activities allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before, but check each offer’s conditions.

How much does an excursion in Marrakech cost?

Prices vary by duration, season and format. A half-day group activity costs far less than a private multi-day tour. Platforms show the exact price and options before payment.

Group or private excursion?

A small group is economical and social. Private suits families, demanding travellers and long routes, with tailor-made timings.

Will I be picked up at my hotel or riad?

Many excursions include hotel pick-up. Riads in the pedestrian medina sometimes use a nearby meeting point: the activity page states it.

Why book through this site?

You book directly on GetYourGuide at the same prices. We receive a small commission that funds keeping this guide up to date, at no extra cost to you.

GetYourGuide Marrakech: how do I book and is it reliable?

GetYourGuide is a booking platform for tours and activities. On GetYourGuide Marrakech you compare offers, read verified traveller reviews, then choose the date and group size. Many activities offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before, but read each offer’s conditions. This site is independent: we select the activities and booking happens on GetYourGuide.

Which tours should I book with Get Your Guide in Marrakech?

For a first stay, start with the Agafay Desert evening, the guided medina tour and a day in Essaouira or at Ouzoud Waterfalls. For more adventure: Merzouga or Toubkal. All our recommendations are organised by theme on this page.
